About Us
Founded in 1974
Literacy Network began as the Madison Literacy Council in 1974. In that first year, founder Ray Wagner trained about 30 volunteer tutors. Today, we train more than 350 volunteer tutors each year and serve more than 1,200 adult learners.

ESL Instructor Gregg Williard displays photos and writing by our students in the "Home" exhibit.
Literacy Network is Volunteer Powered!
More than 400 volunteers help us accomplish a huge amount in the community. In the last year, our volunteers dedicated more than 17,000 hours to help us accomplish our mission. Volunteers enable us to accomplish many goals in the community.
